As a Manager of Business Development, you will serve as a strategic and results-driven leader, tasked with spearheading the success of our team of Business Development Representatives (BDRs). This pivotal player-coach role involves directly coaching, mentoring, and motivating our BDRs to not only meet but exceed ambitious sales targets, while actively participating in business development efforts to further enhance their skills. You will play a critical role in expanding our business development team, driving significant revenue growth, and building robust relationships with key partners and clients.

You are:

  • A team player with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in SaaS Business Development with a proven track record of success in exceeding sales targets; with at least 1 year experience leading a team of BDR’s.
  • Hands-on experience with multiple sales techniques, including cold and discovery calls.
  • Highly motivated and has a strong understanding of the sales cycle, lead generation, and qualification processes.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Proficient in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) and other sales enablement tools.
  • Able to present the company mission and product value prop to potential clients and multiple personas.

What you’ll do in this role:

Leadership and Coaching:

  • Set clear goals and performance expectations for the BDR team, actively participating as a player-coach to lead by example.
  • Develop and implement coaching plans to improve individual and team performance, directly involving yourself in key sales initiatives as part of the coaching process.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and support to BDRs, fostering a positive and productive team environment, while actively engaging in team activities and sales efforts.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback, using insights from your own sales experiences to guide and develop the team.

Strategic Planning and Execution:

  • Develop and implement a data-driven sales strategy aligned with overall business objectives.
  • Identify and prioritize new business opportunities and market segments.
  • Analyze market trends and competitor activity to inform strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with marketing and other departments to create a seamless sales funnel.

Sales Management:

  • Oversee the BDR sales pipeline and forecast accuracy.
  • Manage lead distribution and territory assignments.
  • Identify and implement best practices for prospecting, lead qualification, and deal negotiation.
  • Monitor key sales metrics and identify areas for improvement.

Talent Development:

  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices in B2B sales.
  • Identify and implement training programs to enhance the team's skillset.
  • Support the professional development and career growth of BDRs.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare regular reports on team performance, pipeline health, and sales metrics.
  • Analyze results and identify trends to inform future strategies.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior management.

What you should be great at:

  • Strong leadership skills and experience in managing a diverse team of professionals.
  • Proven track record of success in business development, sales, or a similar role, preferably in Higher Education/SaaS environments.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking.
  • Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in business development and sales.

Compensation: $85,000 - $95,000 base salary + variable compensation.
